January: Cervical Cancer AwarenessWe tend to find ourselves lost when we hear the words cancer. We seem to think it is the end for the hopes and dreams we have but its not. Its something we can fight. One type of cancer that effects women today is cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is the second most occurring cancer in the world. It effects 1 out of every 123 woman. The causes include: the human papillomavirus (HPV), exposure while in the womb to diethylstilbestrol (DES), chlamydia or herpes simplex virus type 2, family history, conditions that weaken the body's immune system like HIV/AIDS, smoking, and low levels of folic acid (a type of Vitamin B).
The best way to protect yourself is to get a regular screening at your doctors, through a PAP test. It is suggested to get one right after you have had intercourse for the first time. There is also a HPV shot.
